The Korfball Awards Scheme has been designed to encourage new players (adults and juniors) to develop a good understanding of the basic techniques, tactics, health, fitness, safety and social aspects of the sport.

The Korfball Awards Scheme has the following aims:

1. To encourage new players, increase their enjoyment of Korfball, recognise their progress and give

    them a sense of achievement.

2. To enable the Awards to be used as guidelines for newly qualified coaches.

3. To help clubs and schools to evaluate the progress of new players.

NATIONAL CURRICULUM

Korfball encourages equal opportunities for the physical, mental, social and cultural well-being of its participants.

The scheme allows for differentiation in abilities and maturities so that juniors and adults can participate in the awards scheme.  Individual players are able to work through the levels at their own pace.

Levels 1 - 4 of the award scheme have been crossed-referenced to the National Curriculum (Key Stages 1 - 4) for the benefit of schools.  The standards for each of the levels are set out below:

Level 1 - Under 10's (Key Stages 1 & 2)
Level 2 - Under 12's (Key Stages 2 & 3)

These levels encourage the correct technical development and development of basic ball-handling skills and footwork.

Emphasis is placed on the individual's awareness in a game situation as a player, team member and spectator and encourages good sporting behaviour.

A participant will acquire a knowledge of the basic rules and tactics, the safety aspects when lifting and carrying equipment, and the importance of health and fitness.

Level 3 - Under 14's (Key Stage 3)

This level requires more advanced ball-handling skills, a greater knowledge and understanding of the game and provides an introduction to refereeing at training sessions.

Level 4 - Under 16's (Key Stage 4)

At Level 4, a player will be expected to be proficient in most areas of the game.  A participant should attend coaching and refereeing courses and promote Korfball by helping others.
